TranscribeKit is a local-first application. Your audio, video, and transcriptions are processed entirely on your own device and are never uploaded to our servers.
1. Who We Are
TranscribeKit is developed and published by IAM_DEV. If you have any questions about this policy, please contact us at support@iamdev.me.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
TranscribeKit does not collect, store, or transmit the following:
- Audio or video files you upload into the app
- Transcription text or subtitle content
- Translation results
- Project names, file names, or any file metadata
- Your name, email address, or any personal identifiers
- Usage data, analytics, or behavioral tracking
All data created within TranscribeKit — projects, files, transcription jobs, segments, and exports — is stored locally in your user folder (%APPDATA%\TranscribeKit\ on Windows) and never leaves your machine.
3. Network Activity
TranscribeKit connects to the internet only in the following specific circumstances, all of which are user-initiated:
- Whisper model download: When you choose to download a transcription model, the model file is fetched from Hugging Face's public model repository. No personal data is sent.
- AI Translation (optional): If you configure an OpenRouter API key and start a translation job, the transcription text for that specific job is sent to the OpenRouter API endpoint you configure. This is governed by OpenRouter's privacy policy. TranscribeKit does not store or log any API keys or translated content beyond your local device.
- AI Proofreading (optional): Same as translation — text is sent to your configured OpenRouter endpoint only when you explicitly trigger a proofreading job.
TranscribeKit does not make any other network requests. There are no telemetry calls, crash reporting endpoints, or background data transmissions.
4. Third-Party Services
When you use the optional AI translation or proofreading features, you interact with OpenRouter (openrouter.ai). Their handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policy. We encourage you to review it before configuring an API key.
TranscribeKit itself has no relationship with OpenRouter and does not share any data with them independently.
5. Microsoft Store
TranscribeKit is distributed through the Microsoft Store. Microsoft may collect diagnostic, telemetry, and purchase-related data as part of the Store experience, governed by Microsoft's Privacy Statement. This data collection is performed by Microsoft, not by TranscribeKit.
6. Data Storage & Security
All app data is stored in a local SQLite database on your machine. We have no access to this database. You can delete all app data at any time by uninstalling the application or deleting the app data folder.
Because we never receive your data, we cannot be subject to a data breach affecting your transcriptions or files.
7. Children's Privacy
TranscribeKit does not knowingly collect any personal data from anyone, including children. The application has no user accounts and no data collection mechanisms.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and note the changes in the app's release notes. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
